Unrest over plans FINA

Email dit bericht Print dit bericht

Since the whole swimsuit debacle in 2009, with the swimming associations in the FINA Congress against the will of the FINA governance in the fast suits wegstemden, there is unrest in the swimming world. Many unions and coaches wonder if the current international swimming federation still meets. And there are even openly declare sooner rather than later to want the current structure and a new organization wishing to set up.
Fortunately this happened all in the background and goes back especially since 1 January 2010 on the swim and the performance delivered, but that would soon become change can come. On Swimnews.com an article written by John Leonard, head of the U.S. swimming coaches organization, including a disturbing message about democracy in the FINA . Loosely translated, it comes down to the following:

When a FINA Congress is announced, all swimming federations asked to contribute ideas. These ideas can then be discussed during the conference and can serve as a majority agrees with the idea be implemented. Of course it does not get most of the ideas and the discussion, any indication, the FINA bureau for the Congress to determine how they think about the ideas. In many cases there is ultimately no difference between the opinion of the FINA and the final decision during the congress, but sometimes it happens that the Congress a proposal against the wishes of the FINA takes in. Best example is the abolition of the fast suits, which the president and the director of the FINA both were against the abolition, but eventually the Congress by 186 votes against 6 took to the proposal.
What now has come out is that FINA has apparently decided that coming up with ideas no longer be done by the swim leagues, but this is a FINA matter should be and even only of the executive committee. That would mean that only 3 people, which in 2009 so 2 against the abolition of the fast suits voted, new ideas about the future of the world swimming may bring. A situation where several American coaches so that they tune about now openly questioning the existence of the FINA or at least their participation in this organization.

Next week in Indianapolis the ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) and the WSCA (World Swimming Coaches Association) meeting where one of the meeting points will be 102 years or after a separation must be found of the FINA .

  1. Power corrupts as it turns out once more. Good initiative of the swim coaches that into question. I would hope it to change, but not lead to separation.

  2. Division seems to me the last thing that should happen, I would not imagine that on such as the Olympics do not swim anymore, or that there are some large countries like the United States is not present.
On the other hand, the plans of the FINA also completely unacceptable.
