Dutch swim to England in record time
Six relay swimmers on Tuesday by a Dutch record established in less than nine hours from France to England swim. The old record dated from 1969 and stood at 9 o'clock and 29 minutes in the name of the Hague Bluff swimmers whose icons such as John of Scheijndel belonged at the time and this time a world record swim. The relay team which managed to improve the record today, called IJsselmeer Bikkels consisted of six former swimming champion / long jobs swimmers. Initiator was Brother Richard from The Hague. He had put together a team of veterans who wanted all the IJsselmeer in the past have swum across. Team members were Marcel van de Togt (DES, The Hague), Ron van der Harst (Zian, The Hague), Ralf van de Poel (Leiderdorp), Hans Peter Hartog (DAW, Alkmaar), Roel de Hoop (DAW, Alkmaar) and Brother Richard (Splash, The Hague).
The six swam around and around and were due to favorable winds and weather 8 hours and 57 minutes for the crossing from Calais to Dover. Brother according to the water was 16.5 degree and there was a reasonable wave. That it was more comfortable in the water than on the dinghy was when one of the swimmers on board was seasick. When he returned to the water indook went better.
The swimmers are very pleased that finally the ancient record from the books is swum. They celebrate the achievement in England and return back to Calais Wednesday, after which they again come to the Netherlands.
The world record was swum in 1990 by the U.S. national swimming team. The Americans then swam from England to France in six hours and 52 minutes
