Ekkort2009 Today the European short course championships started in Istanbul. Unlike previous tournaments during the semifinals and finals also started in 10 jobs and so there are 20 swimmers to the semi finals. In addition, still applies to the rule that a maximum of two swimmers per country qualify for the semi-final, and therefore, it may happen that the number 24 in the series is still place for the semi-final. One of the lucky ones of these 2 lines was Tessa Brouwer on the 50m breaststroke with 31.34 the 24th fastest time, but thanks 4 Germans and 4 Sweden for her 20th and last as it goes through to the semifinals this afternoon. Monique Nijhuis had this rule is not needed, they swam with 30.19 the 3rd time behind Janne Schaefer and Dorothea Brandt (both from Germany).

On the 50vrij of the men took Bastiaan Tamminga the semifinals not. He swam 22.21 for the 38th time, nearly 1.5 seconds behind the fastest of the morning, Amaury Leveaux. It came with 20.80 already very close to his own European record of 20.48. To get to the semifinals was a time under 22 seconds.

On the men's 200m medley at the no participation from the Netherlands. Fastest 2 men in the series were "veterans" Laszlo Cseh and Markus Rogan in 1:53.60 and 1:53.89 respectively. To get to the finals (there is no longer tracks the 200m and semifinal) was 1:55.22.

Unfortunately for Sharon Rouwendaal was her 22nd place in the heats of the 100m backstroke semifinal no worth, before that, she was 9 hundredths harder to swim. However, she swam a new personal record with 59.69. In last October (Aachen) on 01/01/19.

For Bastiaan Lijesen was also the breakthrough one-minute limit to note, though the 2-minute limit. On the 200rug he came to 1.59.54, more than half a second faster than ever. Beyond the 31st place brought him in a field which was dominated by Russians. The numbers 1 till 3 and No. 9 were Russians, with Arkady Vyatchanin with world record at 1:50.37 was 0.02 seconds off! Evgeny Aleshin and Stanislav Donets were 1:49.66 and 1:50.35, just faster and go through it. To get to the finals was 1:52.53 necessary.

Joeri Verlinden swam this morning to a respectable 4th place in the 100m butterfly in 50.49. Fastest of the morning was Nikolay Skvortsov in 49.83, Ivan Lendjer from Serbia was 2nd in 50.15. At number 3 we find Peter Mankoc. The 31-year-old Slovakian came to 50.21. For a semi-final place was 52.17 required.

Only 18 women came to the start of the 200m butterfly, so only 8 eliminations for the final. One of the ladies was disqualified, then the limit for the finals at 2:09.49 was lying.

He was half a second faster than his entry time, but unfortunately the 59.34 of Thijs van Valkengoed not enough for a semifinal spot in the 100m breaststroke. To get to the semifinals was up 58.59 is required. Robin Aggele met there with plenty to 57.86. By that time he was 8th in the series and he swam a new Dutch record. He improved his own record from 2008 by almost 2 tenths Rijeka. Fastest of the morning was Daniel Gyurta 56.89 with a new European record showed record. The world record since the World Cup in Berlin on 55.61 ...

At the 200m medley was on the provisional start list is the name of Femke Heemskerk , but the results missed her name al Hinkelien Schreuder started well at this distance in 2:10.53 and came to the 14th time. No. 10, and so the last finalist recorded 2:09.59, Darta Belyakina was the fastest with 2:08.19.

A finalist remained out of reach for Arjen van der Meulen in the 400m freestyle, as well as improving his personal record. With 3:46.44 he remained about 4 seconds away from his own top time and he was 28th. To get to the finals was 3:40.55 been necessary.

On the 100vrij with the ladies was just like the 200rug for men the number 3 for the first elimination semifinal. Unfortunately this meant that time Femke Heemskerk afternoon may not be launched because Inge Dekker and Ranomi Kromowidjojo were faster. Subscribed by 51.85 for a championship record and a time just over the Dutch record of Marleen Veldhuis (51.74). Ranomi came to 52.41, Femke was 3rd with 52.68. No. 24 and placed last for the semifinals was Miroslava Najdanovski with 54.41. Saskia de Jonge finished with 54.46 and 27th. Striking is also absent Francesca Halsall who since 22 november the European record in her name with 51.19.

On the last song of the morning benefited the Dutch men of the 10-line jobs for the final. With 1:34.34 9th and they were so they may once again tonight at the start. Nick Driebergen came to 23.97 with a new Dutch record in the 50m backstroke. Robin Aggele then swam 25.83 on 2 second-fastest split of the entire field in the 50m breaststroke. Joeri Verlinden continued (after a moderate takeover of 0.50) with 22.76 and Bastiaan Tamminga finished with 21.78 on clearance. For the team from Russia coincided with a new world record 1:32.08. The split of those gentlemen were respectively 23.04, 26.63, 22.08 and 20.33. It had a breaststroke swimmer acquisition of 0.48, this afternoon so I can still some profit to be achieved.

The finals will be broadcast on Eurosport this afternoon from 17.30.
