Maarten van der Weijden wins in England (updated)
That Maarten van der Weijden has stopped the open water competitions does not mean he has stopped swimming in general. With his training work of recent years also means that he still is able to swim a good race. That he still would do it for medals in open water races may perhaps be called surprising. And then he also knows how to win races for sure.
Last weekend was Martin behalf BlueSeventy attended the BlueSeventy Great Big Open Water Swim . As early June already announced Maarten ambassador for the next 3 years BlueSeventy , the company that for him the open water swimsuit developed in which he managed to win Olympic gold in Beijing. In response, let the vice president of BlueSeventy Roque Santos said: "We are thrilled to sign Martin. I was in Beijing and it was amazing to watch him take the Gold in blueseventy . Martin is truly an incredible person and his story is one for the ages. ". Martin is also very pleased with the continued cooperation with BlueSeventy "Blue Seventy has been a great partner in preparation for the Olympics. Not only they made sure I had the fastest swimsuit in the world, but they also listened to my personal preferences. I tested the swimsuit in the pool and know that it has played a big role in my success in Beijing. I am very pleased to officially make our cooperation. "
The intention was that Martin last weekend 'easy' would do. He was especially prominent for its cooperation with BlueSeventy to stress and the youth of England the opportunity to support an Olympic swimming champion. But because you are a real winner can never stop were ultimately a win for Martin. At the 3km in Dorney Lake, Eton (ENG), near Windsor, grabbed Martin by 32 minutes and 25 seconds the title, 1 second for Richard Stannard and 4 for Bradley Hales.
On Sunday there was also a trio triathlon on the program, the sign of Leukemia research. Martin teamed with a local triathlete (bike) and Richard Whitehead (running). Richard is a marathon runner and world record holder in the disability sport. He has had an amputation of both legs and has 2 prostheses. These "sprint" (800m) knew Martin winning to go. After cycling the distance they were still on the 1st position, but unfortunately threw equipment failure (a broken carbon foot) spanner in the works.
Later Martin was still the starter scootathlon. In that game allowed children from 5years on a step behind Maarten racing. An event where Martin clearly enjoyed. After that race, there was little time to get a promotion for the BlueSeventy suits, including for the Japanese market.
A very successful weekend where Martin to own say a lot of fun to have experienced.
