During the Spanish championships Rafael Muñoz the European record in 100m butterfly severe. He came into the bath in Malaga a time of 50.58 and was thus 0.01 faster than Milorad Cavic. The old record of 50.59 was in Beijing for Phelps Cavic just not enough to keep the gold, Phelps swam in the finals the same time as Rafael Muñoz now: 50.58. Incidentally, Muñoz in Beijing in the 100m butterfly still disabled in the series. He came only to a time of 52.53, just under 8 months later he went almost 2 seconds faster.
