The Jaked review

Email dit bericht Print dit bericht

jaked ( Google translation available ) It was during the limit match in Eindhoven on 22 February for the first time that we Jaked experienced. Jasper van Mierlo of Budel swimming club had the suit on the head and swam the 50vrij it. Afterwards he stated that he felt that he later came to lie on the water and it is very easy could hold. His time was about half a second over his personal record, so it seemed "one of the 'suits to be like that could join, but no competitor would be for the Speedo LZR. Two months later showed clearly the wrong conclusion to have been ...

The purchase

On the site of Jaked the suit can simply be ordered. Because plastics are easy to color and Jaked would like some attention for their swimsuit, offer the suits in various colors. There is on the site of Jaked choice of 6 different colors: black, orange, bronze, gold, red and pink. In practice, however, that more colors are witnessing the green and silver pick up what was seen during the Amsterdam Swimcup . Cost is € 372.00 for a full, for a suit for the knee is € 336.00. Both prices include shipping. This makes the suit a bit cheaper than the Speedo LZR that standard is offered for just over € 400.00 for a whole lot.

In order to determine the correct size is available in which there is a measuring table on the basis of the height and weight of the person is a measure can be chosen. This table is adapted to the construction of the Italians, making it the Dutch swimmer / swimmer sometimes a little compromise will be between one size if you look at the length and one size smaller if you look at the weight. And of course there will always tried to be the smallest possible package to attract, so the smallest of the 2 is usually the best choice seems to be. jaked-tasje

After entering some data suggest that no real shop sits behind the front, the 'sale' ends with the message that as soon as possible will be recorded. Within a short time there appeared a mail in our mailboxes, confirming that we have placed orders. To check the size is still required to determine the exact height, weight and chest size. Furthermore there bank details mentioned in the mail with the request for the amount of € 372.00 must be prepaid and the confirmation of payment to be sent via email.

The order was finally completed on Thursday and the following week on Monday, the package already offered a thick plastic bag of UPS. The swimsuit was so directly from Italy and sent via UPS within 3 working days in our possession. From the outside could not see exactly what is in the box sat favorable to prevent it somewhere would 'hang'. Upon opening the bag, we found a special Jaked bag containing our (pink) swimsuit.

The swimsuit

Het label met maten en wasvoorschriften

We had chosen the good striking pink variant, a ladies long suit size 22. This would, according to the size chart should be good for girls / women between the 1.45 and 1.49 and between 51 and 55 kg. The dimensions on the website of Jaked is internationally designed, because the label tells us that it is a UK / USA size 22. The reason for this measure was to abolish the suit primarily because we want to test the minioren older / younger juniors to see if the suit in that group also has a positive effect and how much difference it makes.
On the label inside a number of standard symbols for the washing instructions. From left to right:

  • Handwash
  • Cold bleaching in diluted form as possible
  • Do not dry clean
  • Do not iron
  • Can not tumble

Not surprisingly, outside the possibility of the suit appeared, that does not seem really conducive for the color, although it does provide the opportunity to grab the pimp.

The swimsuit is made from the outside of one type of rubber-like material, which is the most feels like a balloon. At the rear there is a sturdy zip, which extends from the neck to the lower back, whereby it can be noted that they are less far as the through LZR. A frequently heard comment in that bathing suit is that the zipper suits very low, since the Jaked a lot less of.

voor-en-achterkant

On the inside is a kind of finishing materials, substances with an extra strip on the spot where the seams are. Because the suit of a non-permeable material is made, there is no separate substance placed around the cross, it is assumed that the suit by default not show through.

binnenkant

The material

On the website of Jaked we find that the suits they make consist

  • Polyurethane
  • Polyamide

Polyurethane
The ingredient Polyurethane (PU) actually consists of 2 segments, a hard segment and soft segment. Through these segments in a proper way to combine creates a material that what a lot of things can be applied. For example, at the same time flexible yet strong and wear-resistant, have a property that suits for example, is very desirable. Another very important feature is the low water permeability. This feature in the new rules of 2010 will be limited, is what a lot of this material as fast. Because it is not water permeable, the swimmer, as it were a surfboard, which comes to lie on the water, with much less resistance. More information about Polyurethane is amongst other things found on wikipedia .

Polyamide
This material is known under the name Nylon, a synthetic material which, like PU can be worked into a flexible material, for example, in tights, or a hard material, such as in an artificial joint. In the swimsuit of Jaked , the material is primarily used on the inside of the suit, so that a better fit is achieved and the package is also a lot better on and off is and more comfortable than if the package is in its entirety out of PU would have existed . Furthermore, it ensures that the PU to the outside because the less likely to tear the Nylon together.

Outside of these two materials is also mention is made of elastomer, but as a kind of Polyurethane Elastomer is, the use thereof is likely to be part of the outside of the suit.

The Dubai Charter

The new rules of FINA , established in the Dubai Charter, a number of limitations which described swimwear must comply. The two most important herein are as follows:

  • Buoyancy of up to 100 grams
  • January 1, 2010: the permeability of the fabric of the swimsuit is made

Of course we have our home, garden and kitchen also on the way Jaked buoyancy measured and remained well below the allowable 100gram. With approximately 50 grams of this was still the swimsuit to the bottom. However, it should be noted that because the material in its entirety is no water or air passage, there is simply an air bubble trapped may become trapped within the package. This is fairly covered by any of the rules of FINA , the suit the contours of the body must follow, but is obviously difficult to verify.
With regard to the permeability, the suit is a problem, and it will therefore not be approved for use after January 1, 2010. This is also confirmed by without any problem Jaked itself, which of course they all indicate busy with a new package for 2010 and later.

Donning and doffing afwerking

When the LZR just came out there was much to do about it and taking off the suit. Speedo even put a video on the website to explain to buyers how to get the best could be attracted. Let us stress that if the suit is bought to really be tight, it will never be easy or will go. Various users of the Jaked we have been told that between 20 and 40 minutes to get in and get between 5 and 15 minutes to take off. In addition we have several blisters on fingers to see them, so the conclusion is that the attraction of a Jaked is something you need to plan. Key here is that the swimmer dries very well. Putting on the suit if the swimmer is still wet, it is virtually impossible. In contrast to the LZR is the edge at the ankle much less tightly, making it easier to grab it over the foot / ankle to get it. There is therefore an immediate small weakness of the Jaked , finishing at the end of the pipe seems a little 'cheap'. A simple stikseltje should ensure that the material will not tear or anything like that, the future will tell if this solution is sufficient.

The swimming

And then we come to where it really all is done: swimming in a Jaked .
A brief look at all records of the past weeks / months leave immediately if something striking: it seems that the Jaked mostly works very well in the butterfly and breaststroke. Then with the Jaked really made enormous strides, often more than one second 100m. Examples are the biggest 50.46 Peraz Rafael Munoz (ESP) and Marleen Veldhuis of the 50 and 100m butterfly and the Netherlands Lia Dekker and Monique Nijhuis in the breaststroke distances. Of course, the world of Alain Bernard on the 100vrij (swum in the Arena X Glide that in terms of material use is similar to the Jaked ) and the world of Frederick Bousquet on 50vrij (in Jaked ) clear that this still profit, but we are talking about several tenths to half a second at 100m. In the 100m breaststroke by several people won more than one second, think of the 59.50 from Lennart Stekelenburg in Amsterdam Swimcup , a full second faster than his old PR and Dutch Record.

The question of why the effect in breaststroke and butterfly is larger than the clearance is not exactly scientific foundation, but looking at the location of the 4 strokes, the attitude to back and chest are the most alike and at school and butterfly the most each other. Apparently the attitude makes the breaststroke and butterfly, often slightly more vertical than in the chest and back crawl, ensure that the upward thrust is even larger. And because the Jaked no water flow when the swimmer like a surfboard to / on the water surface pushed.
Another reason for the greater profit of the butterfly / school compared to the free / back is perhaps the effect of the LZR last 2 turns that much greater. The Jaked provides for more than a sort of catch. To determine the rankings would continue to be browsed, which often is not known where it was swimming. For this review is that at this point too far.

The tests

Let us stress that we are not scientists. There was no scientific arrangement, no control group and the self-similar circumstances can be debated. The only thing we are trying to do is 2 swimmers (from 1996 and 1998) in the Jaked to swim their race on video recording and time clocks and compare with the information (time, technology, etc) that we already had them .

The girl swam the 1998 first 50m butterfly strokes 50m freestyle with Jaked , then 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle in her normal swimsuit competition. Her personal records on those 2 distances are 38.18 and 32.78, both swam at the Circle Sprint Championships for which they are fully equipped. Now during the training she swam in Jaked to 38.22 and 32.82 on the butterfly on Fri Both times, so just above her personal bests in February. Purely on the numbers not shocking result, but in her usual swimsuit she came to 39 high on the butterfly and 33 layer on the Fri Between the distances Sat ample time to recover and so it seems you want a second profit on the butterfly and a half on Fri

The girl was swimming in 1996 after the warming up a race over 50m breaststroke. In early February she came to the same sprint championships to a PR of 41.08. Then she has a number of times 50m breaststroke swim away as loose or as a split of the 100m and she swam the following times: 42.00, 42.73 and 41.87, a nice steady list. In the race with the Jaked she came to a time of 39.3!. An improvement of almost 2 seconds at 50m.

Last Sunday she swam again in the 50schoolslag Jaked in an official match and came to a time of 39.29, constantly talked about ...

Mental

The test results are not scientific, as already indicated immediately reached. And the youngest youth (minioren / juniors) is the mental factor also not be underestimated. The fact that you have a swimsuit which draws top world records by swimming course can also be a solid boost in your self-esteem concerns. The fact remains however that the times by our two guinea pigs have swum well below the times are those with 'normal' swimsuits were swum.

Conclusion

Our goal was to determine whether the Jaked also works at the minioren and juniors and based on what we have seen the answer is a resounding yes. Its non-porous material whose Jaked was made the youngest swimmers are also higher on the water are more likely to come forward. The effect appears to be greatest in butterfly and breaststroke, because the attitude in passing (slightly above horizontal diagonal in backstroke and freestyle) there seems to ensure that more lift is created.
When asked how much it saves is no simple answer, that differs greatly per swimmer. But our expectation is that in breaststroke and butterfly 1 to 2 seconds per 50m may cause, taking the effect sometimes may be greater in the slightly less talented swimmers. This group is often naturally deeper into the water and would therefore need to have more benefit from the upward force of the Jaked .

Last points of attention: From next season there will probably be the KNZB restrictions on the use of bathing suits for girls with long legs minioren and juniors. This will mean that the purchase of a Jaked for the swimmers in that age group is something you should think carefully about. And since the current version after January 1, 2010 will be banned, wait until she is old enough to him to be allowed not to work.

  1. Hey Martin,

Good report of what we have done ...... and yes, the jaked supplies in our small form of testing surely benefit. There will still follow the tests and hope that all interested people in touch with via your site!

Am curious what times next season there will be swum by swimmers minioren now swimming in LZR example, if the rule is that minioren and juniors may only swim in a bathing suit without basic pipes .... Too bad the influence of a LZR not tested in this group of swimmers while I was already much minioren / juniors in these suits have seen starting to see swimming and great times.

    Greetings

    Yvon

  2. Hey Martin,

After being told to do so by you Sven Kardol a bathing site had begun, I was going to overlook all curiosity. The site has a simple but clear layout, and there are a lot of important messages that only I could find on this site and not on other "swim site's". Also, the messages in a clear language.
But what I love about this site, is to test the suits, which makes a lot more original than other swimming's site, and so do I still have some positive things to mention.

It is also very nice of you to me as an example in this article even though about 1 thing you have overlooked. The time I had swum on 22 February 2009 (24.11) is a 50m pool time, and it is indeed a PR, if only one hundredth of a second at this race I was not getaperd. And the race where I had stood my PR, I was already begun to taper.

I wish you much success with the site, and I shall certainly go and see more swimming for fun facts!

    Regards,

    Jasper van Mierlo

  3. Great fun to read about how you pack are tested and reported, especially because there is so much to do with the World Championships in Rome.

I have another question. It therefore seems that the suits provide more buoyancy, making it higher on the water comes to rest. Furthermore, they sit very tight, and must be equal after the match to be loosened because many swimmers (women) would otherwise not be able to breathe.
    Then I wonder:
    1. If the suit a large buoyancy, it has no adverse effect on your underwater phase. That these shorter, or that it becomes more difficult to keep this long (because you are driven up)?
    2. The suit is well suited for the long haul, because it is so tight. For long distances there is more talked of a lot of oxygen for aerobic performance where necessary. If the suits so tight, one gets the long distances will still be enough air?

I know Neit or answer these questions, but this is always to shoot me up with watching the swimming competitions ..

    Regards,

    Remco

  4. @ Remco. First of all we have done no scientific justification, otherwise we (hopefully) have joined the FINA and the whole chaos may occur :)
    Regarding your questions:

    1. The suit does not of itself buoyancy, it has to do with the air trapped in the suit. If you have it you can really create a bubble under the fabric. Of course, this advantage is lost if the water is your suit.

And immediately the answer to question 2: The profit you in the shorter distances, you have almost certainly not (entirely) in the longer distances. The suit does not so good that there is absolutely no water enters. Thus the buoyancy effect in the longer distances (a little) less than short distances.
About the tightening of the suit and therefore the negative effect on aerobic performance, I can only say that the previous generation suits were also very tight, so it is possible that effect already 'processed' in the old world records.

    Greeting

    Martin
